The students in Mrs. Banack’s reading class have a lot of opinions about the books they read! This post will be dedicated to book reviews, written for kids, by kids!

Remember, a book review should include:

•  Title (make sure to underline titles of books!)
• Author
• One paragraph summary (about 50-70  words)
• Type of genre
• Reasons why you liked (or didn’t like it)
• What kind of readers would like it

Earth Day 2008

Today you watched small parts of the documentary Inconvenient Truth. Hopefully you learned a little about what climate change is and why we should take it seriously. If you are still unsure of what climate change means, click here for a kid-friendly site. It is loaded with easy-to-read information, ways you can help, and even some games.

 Your homework is to take an Ecological Footprint Quiz. This quiz is not highly detailed, but will give you a general idea of how much impact you have on the earth based on where you live, how much you fly, where your food comes from, how big your home is, and other factors. YOU WILL NEED YOUR PARENTS’ HELP, so set up an appointment with them sometime this week to complete this quiz. The good news is you can take it in many languages! Click here to start.

Once you have taken the quiz, post your responses to the following questions. It is due on Monday, April 28th.

1. If everyone lived like you, how many planets would we need?
2. How do you feel about that? Are your surprised?
3. What questions do you have?
4. What are some simple things you and your family can do (in addition to what you may already be doing) to help limit your negative impact on the earth? Try to name two. If you’re stuck, click here for some ideas!
